Team Fujisawa and Team Iwai will be on the ice in Suzhou

The Japan Curling Association has announced its line-ups for the first stage of the Curling World Cup in Suzhou.

Competing in the women’s event will be the Olympic bronze medalists from PyeongChang earlier this year, Team Fujisawa. They have competed together for a number of years and are skipped by Satsuki Fujisawa.

Sisters Chinami and Yurika Yoshida will play third and lead respectively alongside second Yumi Suzuki in the Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre.

The team also won silver at the 2016 World Championships in Swift Current, in addition to being Japanese national champions five times.

Chinami, who is the most-followed curler on social media with 122,338 followers on Instagram, said: “I’m looking forward to playing with the best teams in the world. I’m so pleased and proud to participate as Team Japan and just as excited for the event as I am for an Olympic Games.”

Representing Japan in the men’s competition are Team Iwai, who have already won a World Curling Tour event this season at the Hokkaido Bank Curling Classic last month.

Masaki Iwai skips the national championship-winning rink, who are completed by fourth Go Aoki, second Ryotaro Shukuya and lead Kouki Ogiwara.

The Japanese teams get under way in Suzhou on September 12, with the men and women both beginning their campaigns against Scotland.
