Team Walstad to fly the flag for Norway in the Curling World Cup

Norway have announced a strong line-up for the first stage of the Curling World Cup in Suzhou.

Team Walstad have been selected by Norway to compete in the men’s competition, which includes Olympic, World Championship and World Junior Championship medallists.

The rink is skipped by Steffen Walstad, who will be joined by the team’s third Markus Hoeiberg, second Magnus Nedregotten and lead Magnus Vaagberg.

In preparation for the inaugural Curling World Cup, the side competed in the Baden Masters and finished third in an elite field, which included Team Mouat, Team de Cruz and Team Edin.

Kristin Skaslien, who won Olympic bronze in PyeongChang earlier this year, will team up with former world junior bronze medalist, Sander Roelvaag, in the mixed doubles at Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre in two weeks’ time.

Skaslien also won a bronze medal at the World Mixed Doubles Championships in 2015 in Sochi alongside the men’s second, Nedregotten, but is not underestimating the challenge in Suzhou.

The 32-year-old said: “Every game is going to be hard with such a high quality field, so it will definitely be tough to succeed. We will do our very best to be top in our group, but time will tell.

“A good start is always a boost for the self-confidence and reaching the Grand Final in Beijing would be a highlight in my curling career.”
