Sweden v United States men among day one highlights as schedule is revealed

The schedule for the opening leg of the Curling World Cup in Suzhou has been released and is set to produce some enthralling encounters for fans on the opening day of competition.

The series begins on Wednesday 12 September at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre in China’s southeastern Jiangsu Province and men’s world champions Sweden facing United States’ new-look Team Ruohonen is among the opening-day highlights.

China’s women will have the home fans’ full backing as they start off with a difficult match against Sweden’s Team Hasselborg, who won Olympic gold in PyeongChang earlier this year.

The mixed doubles event boasts an array of major championship medallists, with young Russian pairing Daniil Goryachev and Mariia Komarova playing Norway’s 2018 Olympic bronze medallist Kristin Skaslien and 2015 World Mixed Doubles champion Sander Roelvaag, in what could be a crucial final pool match on Saturday.

With dozens of Olympic and World Championship medallists in all three fields the competition is certainly going to be of the highest standard.

There will be 75 matches, across five days, on five sheets, involving 24 rinks, with US$165,000 to be won.

Before the action starts in earnest there will be a training day on Tuesday September 11 before an opening ceremony on the following afternoon, with the first rocks set to be thrown at 1500 local time.
