Sweden announce line-ups for Curling World Cup
Olympic gold medallists set to take part in the first leg
The Sweden Curling Association has announced three strong teams that will represent them at the first leg of the Curling World Cup in Suzhou, China.
Sweden women’s team is Team Hasselborg, who won Olympic gold in PyeongChang earlier this year, led by skip Anna Hasselborg. The rink is based in Sundbyberg, with Hasselborg joined by Sofia Mabergs, Agnes Knochenhauer and Sara McManus.
Hasselborg, who was recently nominated for Sports Woman of the Year by the Women's Sports Foundation, which will be awarded on October 17, said her team “can’t wait” to compete in the Curling World Cup.
The men’s side will be Team Edin, who had a fantastic season last year winning World and European Championship gold and claiming silver at this year’s Olympic Games.
Skip Niklas Edin will combine with Oskar Eriksson, Rasmus Wranaa and Christoffer Sundgren as they look to continue the form that kept them world no.1 for the majority of the 2017-2018 season.
The young pairing of Robin Ahlberg and Therese Westman will team up in the mixed doubles competition. They had success last year when they beat Per and Camilla Noreen in the final of the Swedish mixed doubles championship.
Ahlberg and Westman said they were “so proud” to represent Sweden in the first stage of the inaugural Curling World Cup.
