Swedish organisers welcome Jonkoping’s inclusion in Curling World Cup

European stage of the four-leg series will run from 30 January to 3 February 2019

Jonkoping, a neo-gothic town in southern Sweden, will host the third leg of the new Curling World Cup.

The European stage of the four-leg series will run from 30 January to 3 February in 2019 at Jonkoping Curling Club.

The Swedish Curling Association’s Secretary General, Stefan Lund, has welcomed Jonkoping’s inclusion, saying: “We are really happy to host this new event. Our women’s and men’s teams are the number one-ranked teams in the world, so to have a competition like this at home is big news for Swedish curling.

“Thanks to Jonkoping Curling Club and the Jonkoping Municipality for offering us a good solution to host this event. We are looking forward to showing our great teams on home ice soon.”

Ante Jankovic, Convention Bureau Manager of Destination Jonkoping AB, said: “We are very proud and happy to be a part of the new Curling World Cup. This opportunity came at short notice and was made possible in cooperation with Jonkoping Curling Club.

“Jonkoping can promise a fantastic curling arena that will be adapted with the Curling World Cup concept during the four days of competition. The Curling World Cup 2019 makes us stronger in our ambition to host international events at the highest level. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone to Jonkoping in January 2019.”

As a host of the Curling World Cup, Sweden will receive a place for women, men and mixed doubles teams at each of the first three legs of the series – in Suzhou, China (12-16 September 2018); Omaha, USA (5-9 December 2018); and at their home event in Jonkoping (30 January to 3 February 2019).
